Choosing Joy – Phil. 2:1-11

October 17, 2021 / Jared Douglas

Biblical humility means that we have a humble view of ourselves and have a higher view of God and others.

3 Biblical Truths About Humility:

1. Humility is a choice.

“Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.”   Philippians 2:3

“He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—even to death on a cross”            Philippians 2:8

2. Humility Means Looking and Living Beyond Ourselves.

“Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”  Philippians 2:3-4

“He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant.”  Philippians 2:7

Serving others is not just something we are called to do; it is who we are called to be!

3. Humility opens the door for God’s Blessing.

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.”  Philippians 2:9

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”   James 4:10

“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud, but shows favor to the humble.”  James 4:6
