A Father’s Building Materials

Bible text: Proverbs 24:3-4, Matthew 7:24-27


Proverbs 24:3-4

When we build with these 3 materials, we achieve fulfillment

Matthew 7:24-27

In this story, Jesus gives us an overview of

  • 2 builders
  • 2 houses
  • 2 foundations
  • 2 storms

Building is not an easy task. It is time-consuming – so is being a good father.

Encouragement

Availability

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16

Love isn’t something you buy; your kids spell love T-I-M-E, and it costs more than M-O-N-E-Y. (Dr. James Dobson)

In order to raise our children, it takes 2 types of time:

  1. time
  2. time

Teaching

One of the greatest building materials a dad can read is: the book of

A. The negatives

A couple of areas of Solomon’s instructions:

  1. Avoid bad (Read Proverbs 1:8-10, Proverbs 1:15, Proverbs 13:20)
  2. Abandon (Read Proverbs 5:1-8)

B. The positives

  1. Teach them how to do things
  2. Teach them how to and show them how to
  3. Teach them to win
  4. Teach them at the family
  5. Teach them to make Jesus the of their life
  6. Teach them the of the Spirit

Husband

One of the greatest things you can do to be a great father: be a great husband

Encouragement

“A merry heart doth good like a medicine.” Proverbs 17:22

We love our children in ways:

  1. By what we say and how we say it
  2. By what we do
  3. By how we hug

Reputation

Be a man of integrity. Be real.

Read 2 Peter 3:14

Dads, your influence in your children is stronger than the influence of

  • their Sunday school teacher
  • their Youth pastor
  • their Pastor

Kids, your parents can lead you to freedom and security. But you have to follow.
