The Evidence of God’s Love
Romans 5:6-11
Main Thing to Know:
When I see I see
He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. (1 John 4:8-9)
Apart from Christ and his cross, the world would never have known what true love is.
1. God gave for us
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10)
2. God gave His Son for us
On the cross, Jesus is getting what we deserve so we can get what he deserves.
—Timothy Keller, King’s Cross
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
3. God gave His Son to die
Who were we?

• (v. 6)
And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
