Bad News about the Good News

The challenge: a lot of people don’t think they need the of the gospel because they don’t really understand the . 

Romans 1:16–17 (NLT)

16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile. 

17 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

 

 

Romans 3:10 (NLT)

10 As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one.

 

Romans 1:18 (NLT)

18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.

 

  1. God’s wrath is a part of His

 

  1. God’s allows for us to choose if we want to experience His wrath. 

 

 

Romans 1:19–20 (NLT)

19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 

20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

 

 How people suppress truth: 

 

  1. They don’t give God or

 

Romans 1:21a (NLT)

21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks

 

  1. Embrace which lead to .  

 

Romans 1:21b (NLT)

And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.

 

  1. Allow darkness to lead to

 

People worship idols – (Rom 1:22-23) 

 

Inversion takes place in life – (Rom 1:24) 

 

Iniquity takes hold – (Rom 1:28) 

 

My hope is that you have a clear picture of God’s wrath so you know your desperate need for His Good News.
