HOW TO HANDLE TROUBLE
Pastor Goss | 6.4.23
Matthew 14:22-33 | New Living Translation

Troubles Will Come

Matthew 14:22-25 (NLT) Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home.
23 (NLT) After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.

24 (NLT) Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves.
25 (NLT) About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water.

John 16:33 (NLT) I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Your Fears

Matthew 14:26 (NLT) When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!”

Psalm 56:3 (NLT) But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

The Voice Of God

Matthew 14:27 (NLT) But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”

The Risk

Matthew 14:28-29 (NLT) Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”
29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.

James 1:2 (NLT) Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

Lack Of Action Adds To The Fear

How Do I Take Calculated Risk

Seek Clarity From God

Make Sure You Are Moving Toward God

Keep Your Eyes On God

The Fear To Return

Matthew 14:30 (NLT) But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.

The Hand Of God

Matthew 14:31 (NLT) Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”

Philippians 4:13 (NLT) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

God

Matthew 14:32-33 (NLT) When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped.
33 Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.

Psalm 34:1(NLT) I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises.
2 I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart.
3 Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.
4 I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.

2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
