Romans 8:5–6 (NLT)
5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.
6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
Why we struggle asking for help
1. Fear of
2. Pride &
3. Lack of
God wants to unite us while the devil wants to us.
James 5:16 (ESV)
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Seeking help is a sign of , not weakness.
THE KEY TO SEEKING HELP…
1. See others as , not competitors.
Unhealthy competition: Envy
Ecclesiastes 4:4 (NLT)
4 Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
Ecclesiastes 4:9 (NLT)
9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.
The greatest we have in life are the people in our life.
The belief that one person can do something great is a myth.
“Many times a day I realize how much my own outer and inner life is built upon the labors of my fellow men, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I received.” – Albert Einstein
2. Be , not suspicious, of others.
Ecclesiastes 4:10 (NLT)
10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.
Proverbs 11:25 (NLT)
25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
3. Be , not vague, with others
Ecclesiastes 4:11 (NLT)
11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone?
Vulnerability with God.
Psalm 51:17 (ESV)
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Vulnerability is .
Proverbs 13:20 (ESV)
20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
4. Find , not solitude, with others.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NLT)
12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
John 15:12–14 (NLT)
12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.
13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
Two Questions to ask myself:
1) Am I willing to ask for help?
2) Who am I helping?
