Vintage Values: Purity

Pastor Blake Hanson | 11.13.22

Purity: free of contamination and immorality.

We’re without God but by God.

Isaiah 64:6 (NLT)

6 We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind…

Romans 5:1 (NLT)

1 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

The Purity Problems

1) Purity seems

2) We base our purity standard off and not the Bible.

3) Culture Biblical purity.

You are called to purity!

FOUR VALUES OF PURITY…

1) Purity gives us a sense of .

Ephesians 1:5–6 (MSG)

5 Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!)

6 He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

John 3:29 (NLT)

29 It is the bridegroom who marries the bride…

Hebrews 12:2 (NLT)

2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

2) Purity steers

1 Peter 1:14–15 (NLT)

14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then.

15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.

A.W. Tozer “All things as they move toward God are beautiful, and they are ugly as they move away from God.”

2 Corinthians 7:1 (NIV)

…let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

Deuteronomy 23:12 (NIV)

12 Designate a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself.

3) Purity gives you a good .

John 14:27 (NIV)

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Romans 12:2 (NIV)

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

4) Purity allows us with God.

Ephesians 2:13–15 (NLT)

13 But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.

14 For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.

The answer to our impurity problem is not more and but a with Jesus.
