The Speech

Pastor Blake Hanson | 11.09.22

Bottom Line: To reach people it’s important we know what we share

Acts 7:1–2 (NLT)

1 Then the high priest asked Stephen, “Are these accusations true?”

2 This was Stephen’s reply: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me

1) Be prepared to your faith.

1 Peter 3:15 (NLT)

15 Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.

2) Understand the gospel may be hard for people to

Acts 7:54 (NLT)

54 The Jewish leaders were infuriated by Stephen’s accusation, and they shook their fists at him in rage.

Luke 4:28–30 (NLT)

28 When they heard this, the people in the synagogue were furious.

29 Jumping up, they mobbed him and forced him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built. They intended to push him over the cliff,

30 but he passed right through the crowd and went on his way.

Acts 7:59–60 (NLT)

59 As they stoned him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

60 He fell to his knees, shouting, “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died.

3) Trust the will change lives.

Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)

12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Acts 7:57–58 (NLT)

57 Then they put their hands over their ears and began shouting. They rushed at him

58 and dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. His accusers took off their coats and laid them at the feet of a young man named Saul

Bottom line: To reach people effectively it’s important we know what we share clearly.
