God’s Love: Our Safe Haven

October 26, 2022

God’s Love: Our Safe Haven
Pastor Steve | 10.26.22

Key Verse: Zephaniah 3:17  With his love he will calm all your fears.

Main Point: God is always there….always close….even when you don’t feel Him/can’t see Him

A Place of and Security

Psalm 27:5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.

Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge (literally, a place of trust) and strength, always ready/ever present to…. help in times of trouble.

Proverbs 3:25-26 You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked,

26 for the Lord is your security.  He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.

A Place of Unconditional, Compassionate

Psalm 103:13-18 The Lord is like a father to his children tender and compassionate to those who fear him. 14  For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. 15  Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. 16 The wind blows, and we are gone— as though we had never been here. 17 But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children 18 of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!

1 John 4:9-10 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

Matthew 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.

A Place Of

Romans 15:13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 5:4 God blesses those who mourn/grieve, for they will be comforted.

A Place With No Fear of

Deuteronomy 31:6 So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Romans 8:35-38 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.” 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. 38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

A Place Where we are , Emboldened, Renewed

Isaiah 40:31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

A Place Where Fear

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not/Don’t be afraid, for/because I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand

A Place of

1 John 1:8-9 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Psalm 86:5 Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,  so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.

Daniel 9:8-9 O Lord, we and our kings, princes, and ancestors are covered with shame because we have sinned against you. 9 But the Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.

A Place Without Ongoing  or

Doesn’t Condemn

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation/penalty/judgement for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Don’t Condemn

John 8:10-11 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” 11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

– No occasion for shame because we are completely forgiven.

Romans 10:9-10 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced/put to shame/humiliated.

With You in Adversity

God is always there.always close

The Problem: When trouble strikes, we either move closer to God, or further away.…. or choose other comforts/ safe havens .

God Is Our Safe Haven!

When you can’t see Him of Feel Him…..FIND Him in His earthly representatives!

1) The Christian home should be a safe haven for its family members!

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

2) The Church should be a safe haven for the lost and believers alike.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

Application:

  1. Know Him
  2. Seek Him
  3. Rest in His Safe Haven
