Holy Spirit Came Upon Judges 

Judges 3:9-10 But when the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help, the Lord raised up a rescuer to save them. His name was Othniel, the son of Caleb’s younger brother, Kenaz. 10 The Spirit of the Lord came on him, so that he became Israel’s judge and went to war. The Lord gave Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him.

Judges 14:6 At that moment the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him (Samson), and he ripped the lion’s jaws apart with his bare hands.

Judges 6:11-12 Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites. 12 The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”

Judges 6:14-15 Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” 15 “But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

Judges 6:34 Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Gideon, and he blew a trumpet, summoning the Abiezrites to follow him.

Holy Spirit Came Upon Craftsmen

Exodus 31:1-5 Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3 I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. 4 He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. 5 He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft!

Holy Spirit Came Upon Prophets

2 Chronicles 20:15 ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s

2 Chronicles 20:17 You will not have to fight this battle.”

1 Samuel 10:6 The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person/man/human being.

1 Samuel 10:9-10 As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new heart, and all Samuel’s signs were fulfilled that day. 10 When Saul and his servant arrived at Gibeah, they saw a group of prophets coming toward them. Then the Spirit of God came powerfully upon Saul, and he, too, began to prophesy.

1 Samuel 16:13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.

Holy Spirit Came Upon God’s Prophets

2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were moved/carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit Came Upon Jesus!

Isaiah 11:1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord…….

John 1:32 John testified saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.

Luke 4:14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.

And Now….IN Us!

John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.

John 14:15-17 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him.

1. The Holy Spirit Convicts Us – John 16:8

2. The Holy Spirit Regenerates Us – Titus 3:5

3. The Holy Spirit Produces Our Sanctification  – 1 Peter 1:2  and 2 Thessalonians 2:13

4. The Holy Spirit Assures Us of:

– The truth about Christ – 1 John 5:6

– Our salvation – Romans 8:16

– Our sonship and our inheritance in Christ – 2 Corinthians 1:21 and Ephesians 1:13

5. The Holy Spirit Leads Us In Truth – John 16:13

6. The Holy Spirit EMPOWERS/ENABLES Us – ALL of us!

The job of pastors and teachers is to train, equip, and release you to be a minister!

Ephesians 4:11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work/works of service (NIV) / for the work of the ministry (KJV),… and build up the church, the body of Christ.

Every Believer Is A Minister

2 Corinthians 2:6 He (Christ) has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.

1 Corinthians 12:1-11 Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. 2 You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. 3 So I want you to know that no one speaking by the (influence of the) Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the (influence of the) Holy Spirit. 4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts (charisma – grace), but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. 7 A spiritual gift (phanérōsis… manifestation) of the Holy Spirit is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

CONCLUSION:  – MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE!!!

Romans 12:4-8 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. 6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
