Skippin’ The Small Talk – Discovering Your Call

Discovering Your Call

Pastor Blake Hanson | 1.16.22

1 Corinthians 7:17 (ESV) — 17Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches.

The issue: We the call.

Our challenge: Evaluate our call with our , our , and our .

HOW TO DISCOVER GOD’S CALL ON YOUR LIFE…

1. Own your  with Jesus.

Galatians 1:11–12 (ESV) — 11For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. 12For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 13:8 (NLT) — 8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Own your relationship with Jesus by making Him the highest in your life.

2. Direct your .

Galatians 1:13–16 (ESV) — 13For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it.  14And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. 15 But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace, 16was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles…

Two questions we need to ask ourselves when directing our passions:

1. Is my passion in with God’s word?

Matthew 4:4 (NLT) — But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

2.  Is my passion currently in the place?

Jeremiah 17:9 (NLT) — 9 “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?”

3. Take time to .

Galatians 1:16–17 (ESV) — 16was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone;  17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.

Evaluating is not idling. “Even if you’re on the right track, if you stop, you’ll get run over.”

Psalm 1:1–3 (NIV) — 1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

4. Seek God’s .

Galatians 1:18–24 (ESV)  — 18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and remained with him fifteen days. 19 But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord’s brother. 20 (In what I am writing to you, before God, I do not lie!) 21 Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. 22 And I was still unknown in person to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. 23 They only were hearing it said, “He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”  24 And they glorified God because of me.

1 Thessalonians 2:4 (NLT) — 4For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.

God’s approval gives .

God’s approval breaks .

God’s approval changes .

OUR HOPE FOR YOU:

  1. You begin to pursue your call by starting a relationship with Jesus.
  2. You evaluate how well you’re living out your call within your family, your church and your work.
