Astonished

Pastor Blake Hanson | 1.09.22

Bible Engagement:

  • ⅓ Adults have never used a Bible.
  • 48% of adults are “Bible Disengaged”
  • 5% of adults believe the Bible is transforming
  • 11% of Adults read their Bible daily.

Galatians 1:6–10 (ESV) 6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel7not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.  8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.  9As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.  10For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.

If there’s only one message that matters…

1. the message.

Romans 1:16–17 (NLT) 16For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.  17This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

James 2:19 (ESV) 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

2. the message with others.

Acts 17:11 (NLT) 11And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 (NLT) 21but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.

3. Please God by the message.

Galatians 1:10 (ESV) 10For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Matthew 5:14–16 (NLT) 14“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.  16In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Our Hope For You:

  1. That you accept and live out the good news of Jesus.
  2. That you make a commitment to know God’s word more.
