Spiritual Discipline: Practicing self , rightly love for God

7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.  9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.  10 This is real love — not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (1 John 4:7-10)

17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.  18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.  19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)

Fasting is a of love

There are spiritual disciplines of both and

19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,  20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

Fasting is a spiritual discipline of

23 And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. (Romans 8:23)

10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death,  11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead! (Philippians 3:10-11)

Fasting is a way of engaging our to share in Christ’s

PRAYER & FASTING

Start the year focused on God; listening to his voice! Everyone at Crossroads is invited to participate in 21 days of prayer and fasting January 5-26. We have prayer resources, as well as information about the kinds of fasts you can do. For more information, go to our Prayer & Fasting page.

DAILY PRAYER PROMPTS

Would you like a daily text to prompt you to pray during this Prayer and Fasting time? Text to 765.453.4626 (yes that is the church’s number) “prayer or “pray” and the time you’d like to receive. If it’s a morning time, don’t include “am” with your time, but if it’s an afternoon or evening time, you’ll need to include “pm.” For example, “Prayer 9:15” will sign you up for the prompts at 9:15 a.m. and “pray 10:15 pm” will sign you up for the text at 10:15 p.m. It is active now if you want to sign up but you won’t receive your first text message until January 6. If you have any problems signing up, check out our troubleshooting section on our Prayer & Fasting page.
