3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. 5 They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.” (John 10:3-5)

25 Jesus replied, “I have already told you, and you don’t believe me. The proof is the work I do in my Father’s name. 26 But you don’t believe me because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. (John 10:25-28)

How to recognize God’s voice:

1. I have to to recognize it.

• What is God to me through this?

2. His voice deepens as I .

11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. (1 Corinthians 13:11)

3. I have to be listen.

Be still, and know that I am God! (Psalm 46:10)

God’s voice Stranger’s voice
Comforts us Torments us
Infuses wisdom Imparts worry
Encourages us Taunts us
Guides us Confuses us
Stills us Stresses us
Convicts us Condemns us

11 “Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:11-12)

What needs turned down or tuned out so that I can more clearly hear the whisper of God?
