True Confessions: The Art of Owning Up to Mistakes

March 3, 2024

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Proverbs 28:13 – Whoever conceals their sins  does not prosper, but the one who confesses  and renounces them finds mercy.

Psalms 32:1-7 – Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 2 Blessed is the one whose sin the  Lord  does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. 3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning  all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy  on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.  5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions  to the  Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. 6 Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising  of the mighty waters will not reach them. 7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

Confess it! Because…

#1 – Silence actually

Psalms 32:3 – When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long

Ephesians 5:11 – Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness,  but rather expose them.

Matthew 27:3-53 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver  to the chief priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.” 5 So Judas threw the money into the temple  and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

Psalms 32:2Blessed is the one whose sin the  Lord  does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.

Psalms 32:7 – You are my hiding place you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

When was the last time I confessed anything to God?

What do I need to confess to God that I haven’t?

Confess it! [SIN] Because…

#2 – A “Not gets handed out.

Psalms 32:5 - Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions  to the  Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Psalms 32:2 - Blessed is the one whose sin the  Lord  does not count against them…

Jehovah Tsidkenu: The Lord Our Righteousness

Romans 3:12 – There is no one who is righteous, not even one.

Romans 3:12 – There is no one who does good, not even one.

Psalms 32:1Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

Psalm 32:5 - Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity….And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

It is almost always the cover-up rather than the event that causes trouble. ~ Howard Baker.
