Matthew 22:34-40 

34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it:Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Pride is the presumption that we can have fulfillment without depending on God as the source of our happiness and without caring if others find their fulfillment in God. 

Our Neighbor is Who we see.

-The literal meaning is “the (one) near.” 

  1. Biblical love is

1 John 3:26

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

  1. Biblical love the

1 John: 3:17-18

17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

  1. Biblical love the  

Matthew 14:13-21 

  • Jesus had compassion 
  • Jesus responded with action
  1. Biblical love demands

1 John 5:3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,

  • obedience is embracing the “rightness” of what God has commanded 

Love your neighbor as yourself means: seek for your neighbor the you seek for yourself, but also seek them in the —the same zeal and energy and creativity and perseverance.
