Most of life’s battles are or in your mind.

(2 Corinthians 10:3-4 NIV) For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 

(2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV) We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

 

Our lives are always moving in the direction of our strongest thoughts.

 (Proverbs 23:7a NASB) For as he thinks within himself, so he is.

(Romans 8:5-8 NIV) Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set onwhat that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their mindsset on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7 the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

Two foundational thoughts as we begin this series:

  1. Identify the biggest holding you back.

 

(Romans 12:2 NIV) Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this worldbut be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

(John 8:31-32 NIV) Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

  1. Name the that demolishes that stronghold.

John 8:32 NIV) Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

(John 8:44 NIV) He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

(Hebrews 4:12 NIV) For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

(Ephesians 6:17 NIV) Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

(Matthew 11:28-29 NIV) Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

(1 Peter 5:7 NIV) Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

(Psalm 46:1 NIV) God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

(Romans 8:31, 37) If God is for us, who can be against us? …In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

 (2 Peter 1:3 NIV) His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life…

 

TALK IT OVER

What stronghold is holding you back? What negative statement do you say about yourself, and how does it affect you?

What truth demolishes that stronghold? How can you replace that negative statement with truth from Scripture?
