GOOD FRIDAY

(Luke 18:31-34 NIV) Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 32 He will be handed over to the Gentiles. (anyone who isn’t Jewish. In this case, Jesus was referring to the Romans.) They will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog himand kill him. 33 On the third day he will rise again.” 34 The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.

At the cross, at the cross, where I first saw the Light
And the burden of my heart rolled away…”

(John 4:34 NIV) “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”

(John 19:28-30 NIV) Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

(Mark 15:38 NIV) The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

(Hebrews 10:19-22 NLT) “And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.”

(Mark 15:42-43, 46 NIV) It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, (went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.

(John 13:35 MSG) “This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples— when they see the love you havefor each other.”

(Matthew 28:18-19 NLT) Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

(Galatians 6:14 NIV) May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world
