Do You Have a Plan for What You’ve Been Given?

Spent: Finding Freedom with What You Have

Dr. Clayton Chisum

Genesis 41:16 (NLT)

Genesis 41:41 (NLT)

1. If you don’t have a , you’re one away from

Acts 7:10 (NLT)

Proverbs 21:5, 20 (NLT)

Planning isn’t a lack of faith – it’s an act of faith.

Genesis 41:46-49 (NLT)

Proverbs 3:9-10 (NLT)

2. Your bank statement is a document

Matthew 6:24 (NLT)

Luke 16:10 (NLT)

Faithfulness is not about how much you have – it’s about what you do with what you have.

Call to Action: Take a step of faith.

1. Pray about your financial planning

2. Make a budget plan that’s worshipful

Discussion Questions:

1. Beyond My Power

Joseph said, “It is beyond my power to do this, but God can.”

  • Where in your financial or personal life do you feel “beyond your power”? What would it look like to truly invite God into that space, as Joseph did?
  • Next Step: Identify one area of your finances or life that feels overwhelming and commit to praying specifically about it this week.

2. The Power of a Plan

Joseph didn’t just interpret the dream—he made a plan and worked it.

  • How does creating a plan become an act of faith rather than a lack of it?
  • Next Step: Take 30 minutes this week to review or start a simple financial plan or budget with God in mind.

3. Worship Through Stewardship

“Worship isn’t just singing—it’s stewarding.”

  • What would change in your attitude toward money if you saw every financial decision as an act of worship? Can you think of a recent financial decision that honored—or didn’t honor—God?
  • Next Step: Before your next purchase, pause and ask, “Does this honor God?” Practice worshipful spending once this week.

4. Your Bank Statement’s Story

  • If someone read your bank statement as a spiritual document, what story would it tell about your priorities and values? What changes might reflect a heart more devoted to God than to stuff?
  • Next Step: Review your last month’s spending. Highlight one habit you could change to better reflect your priorities in Christ.

5. Faithfulness in the Little Things

Jesus said, “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.”

  • What is one “little thing” financially or spiritually that God may be asking you to handle more faithfully this week?
  • Next Step: Choose one small act of financial faithfulness—such as saving, giving, or self-control—and commit to practicing it this week.
