“What a Beautiful Name”

What a name it is

Nothing compares to this

What a beautiful name it is

The Christ my King

What a name it is

What a name it is

Luke 1:31 NLT

Did you know that in the original languages of the Bible, Jesus wasn’t called “Jesus”?

Hebrew – “Yeshua” יֵשׁוּעַ

Ya = Yahweh

Yasha = rescue or saves

Hebrew  -> Greek — “Iēsous” Ἰησοῦς

Greek -> English — “Jesus”

Jesus Christ = Jesus

Christ is not Jesus’ last name. It’s Greek for “Messiah.”

Jesus’ name is a to his .

Jesus’ name reveals his and .

Jesus is on a rescue mission and is the Savior of the world!

Acts 4:12 NLT – We are saved in Jesus’ name.

John 14:13 NLT – We pray in Jesus’ name.

Colossians 3:17 CSB – We act on behalf of Jesus’ name.

Proverbs 18:10 NLT

Jesus’ name is the most important word that will ever come off your lips.

The two most important questions you will ever ask:

Philippians 2:9 NLT

Philippians 2:10-11 NLT

NAMES OF GOD

Discussion Questions:

  1. Clayton talked about how names are tied to identity. What does your name (or nickname) say about who you are or how others perceive you? How does this connect to the idea that Jesus’ name reflects His character and mission?
  2. We learned that “Yeshua” means “Yahweh saves” and that “Christ” means “Messiah” How does understanding the original meaning of Jesus’ name deepen your appreciation for who He is and what He came to do?
  3. “Jesus” was a common name in His time, like “James” or “Will” today, yet it became extraordinary because of His life and mission. How does Jesus’ humanity (having a common name) make Him more relatable to you? How does His divinity set His name apart?
  4. Scripture passages like Acts 4:12, John 14:13, and Colossians 3:17 highlight the power of Jesus’ name in salvation, prayer, and action. Share a time when you’ve experienced or witnessed the significance of calling on Jesus’ name in your life.
  5. The sermon described Satan’s attempts to degrade Jesus’ name—first through the cross and now by turning it into an expletive. Why do you think the enemy targets the name of Jesus so intensely? How can we be more mindful in how we use His name daily?
  6. Proverbs 18:10 calls the name of the Lord a “strong fortress.” What does it look like practically to “run to” Jesus’ name in times of trouble or need? Can you share an example from your own life?
  7. Clayton mentioned that the name of Jesus answers, “How can I have a meaningful life?” and “How can I get to heaven when I die?” Is this true or not? What do you think?
  8. Philippians 2:9-11 declares that one day every knee will bow at the name of Jesus. How does this promise encourage you in your faith? How might it challenge you in how you live or share Jesus with others?
  9. Clayton listed off 60 of Jesus’ titles given to him. Does one of Jesus’ titles resonate with you most right now? Why? How does it reflect what you need from Jesus in this season?
  10. The sermon ended with an invitation to trust in the name of Jesus. What’s one way you feel led to respond to this message—whether through prayer, action, or a shift in how you view or speak His name?
