Colossians 3:16 CSB
The Songs of Ascent (Psalms 120-135) were a playlist of songs used by travelers on their way to Jerusalem to prepare their heart for worship of God.
We need songs that remind us of our mission while on our journey. Today, Central has our own playlist of songs that focus our heart’s affection in the right direction.
The songs we sing together are our into .
Today’s Song: “King of Heaven”
“This is our offering given wholeheartedly
Without hesitation we come…
Where could we flee from your presence?
How could we hide from your light?”
at Central is an of scripture
Colossians 1:13 CSB
Jesus, the Son of God and the 2nd person of the Trinity, has a kingdom where God the Father’s will is being carried out. And his will is for you to be saved and sanctified.
Colossians 1:14 CSB
Colossians 1:16 CSB
“All things are through you and for you
We live to worship and adore you
King of Heaven”
We live to worship and adore Jesus because of 3 things:
- His – King of Kings
Daniel 7:13-14 CSB
Everyone gives their allegiance and worship to something. Shouldn’t it be toward the One who actually deserves it?
- His – Humble Servant
Matthew 20:28 CSB
Philippians 2:7-8 CSB.
- His – Loving Savior
Even though it cost him everything and even though we are the least worthy, he acted in our best interest to meet our greatest need.
Romans 5:8 CSB
“This is our offering
Lay it down at your feet
May I only bring what’s costly”
“I’ll give you anything
Cause you’re my everything”

Discussion Questions:
- The sermon mentions the Songs of Ascent as a “playlist” for God’s people traveling to Jerusalem. How do the songs we sing today, like “King of Heaven,” prepare your heart for worship?
- Colossians 3:16 encourages us to let the word of Christ dwell richly among us through teaching, admonishing, and singing. How do you see our church expressing unity, love, peace, and thankfulness through worship?
- The sermon highlights Jesus’ authority as the King of Kings (Daniel 7:13-14, Colossians 1:16). What does it mean to you personally that Jesus has absolute authority over all creation, and how does that inspire your worship?
- Jesus is described as a humble servant who gave His life for us (Matthew 20:28, Philippians 2:7-8). How can we reflect His servant-like attitude in our daily lives, and why do you think this makes Him worthy of our adoration?
- Romans 5:8 and 8:35 emphasize Christ’s unbreakable love for us. How does knowing that nothing can separate you from His love impact the way you live or worship?
- The sermon defines a good worship song as “truth sung with emotion.” How does “King of Heaven” combine biblical truth with emotional resonance for you? Can you think of a specific lyric that stands out?
- What are your favorite worship songs? Can you share why?
- Unlike the pilgrims who traveled to Jerusalem, we can worship God every day. What are some practical ways you can make worship a daily habit, beyond just singing on Sundays?
