Discussion Questions

  1. Everyone’s feeling the pinch of higher inflation, out of reach prices and higher interest rates. In what ways have financial pressure shown up in your life?
  2. Why do you think the rich young ruler’s response to Jesus’ command to sell all he had was to walk away? Can you relate to his reaction in any way?
  3. Jesus looked at the rich young man and loved him before making his request. How does this ‘gaze of love’ impact your understanding of Jesus’s instructions about money and possessions? What might have happened if the wealthy young influencer never broke the gaze?
  4. If you don’t ‘break the gaze’ with Jesus as the rich young ruler did, how can you remain focused on Jesus in a world that continually pulls our attention towards wealth and material possessions? What are some practical ways you can maintain this focus?
  5. “If you’re not trusting Jesus with your money, are you really trusting Jesus?” How might you answer this question?
