Discussion Questions:

  1. Let’s talk about religious people… Why do you think people outside of Christianity have such a negative view of religious people? Is this view warranted or is it too stereotypical?
  2. Can you share a time when you’ve been wounded by a Christian? How has it affected your faith, your participation in church, or even your relationship with God?
  3. Jesus mourned, lamented, and wept over religious people’s actions and words because of their misplaced priorities. Mourning often means getting away and honestly wrestling with your feelings before God, confessing them, and asking for healing. What do you need to mourn over?
  4. Have you ever hurt someone close to you because of religious demands you placed on them? How did it affect your relationship? What was the outcome?
  5. Jesus got mad and did something about it when the temple wasn’t operating in a biblical manner. What makes you mad about the church or church people?
  6. Two ways to get mad were shared: 1) biblically calling out unbiblical practices, and 2) fact checking your faith. How can you do both with honesty, love, and humility?
  7. Hurt can fester and ruin large parts of your life. Is there someone you need to forgive from your past? Is there someone you need to go and ask for forgiveness? Make plans to do so and let someone know so they can support you with accountability.
