Laying it All on the Line

From Wandering to Winning – 4 Decisions Our Church Must Make

January 29, 2023

Dr. Clayton Chisum

Genesis 21:1-3 NLT

Three Seasons God Desires for You:

1. A season of

James 1:2-4 NLT

In a life of faith, that faith will be tested.

Genesis 22:1-2 NLT

2. A season of

Genesis 22:3-10 NLT

3. A season of

Do you really trust Him?

James 2:21-22 NLT

Hebrews 11:17-19 NLT

Genesis 22:11-14a NLT

A season of surrender is the scariest and most secure place you can ever be.

What have I not put on the altar?

  1. The I’ve made
  2. The I’ve planned
  3. The I’ve earned

A life fully surrendered to God is a life of taking next steps, no matter the cost.

God truly

Romans 5:8 NLT

Discussion Questions

  1. If we look at life as a series of seasons, share your best memory when life was full of “Sunny Skies.”
  2. Would you be willing to share what life has been like when you found yourself in the season of “Severe Storms” and your faith was tested?
  3. Ultimately God wants to see you enter the season of “Surrender.” If you’ve let God truly have control over an aspect of your life, can you share how that went and what you learned?
  4. On Abraham’s 50-mile journey to sacrifice Isaac, he must have had many opportunities to talk himself out of the deal, to turn around, and to rationalize a decision to not trust God and follow through with what God called him to do. Why are we so susceptible to doing the same thing? When have you done that?
  5. Clayton talked about 3 areas where we typically have a hard time surrendering to God — 1) The failures we made, 2) The futures we’ve planned, and 3) The finances we’ve earned. What do you need to lay down on the altar?
