Discussion Questions

  1. Read Genesis 18:24-33.
  2. In this narrative, Abraham approached God and pleaded on behalf of the city of Sodom. Has there ever been a time when you have pleaded on someone’s behalf? Consider sharing about it with your small group.
  3. It’s easy to view our community as a place with “a church on every corner”, but in actuality, our community is largely unChristian. When and where have you witnessed the reality of this?
  4. Read Luke 19:41
  5. Discuss the difference between crying because of the city and crying for the city.
  6. In his sermon, Clayton gave us 4 ways we can fight for our city. Discuss what it means to do each of these as individuals and as a church:
    1. Serve your city (Jeremiah 29:7)
    2. Expand your prayer list (Colossians 4:2-4)
    3. Open your eyes to reality (Colossians 4:5)
    4. Go back to living–but this time on purpose (Colossians 4:6)
  7. Consider the following questions:
    1. If Central were to pick up and move or cease to exist, would it affect anyone in our community? Why or why not?
    2. If your family had to move, would anyone notice? Why or why not?
  8. Brainstorm some practical ways that Central can be intentional about fighting for our city.
