God Says You Shouldn’t Do That

Dumb Things Christians Say

October 10, 2021

Dr. Clayton Chisum

Sometimes some of the dumbest things Christians say are not to other Christians, but to people who aren’t, like…

God says you shouldn’t do that

What if our best intentions in our communication with others are quenching the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives?

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (NLT)

Psalm 103:19 (NLT)

We need to recognize our proper role in God’s plan to save the world!

When we tell people that “God says you shouldn’t do that,” what do they actually ?

Does this come across as loving and with an attitude of humility? Or, rather, does it come across as rude and judgmental?

1 Corinthians 5:9-13 (NLT)

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says not to judge (i.e., to stay in your lane)

Matthew 7:1,3 (NLT)

We are quick to judge, to hold people to a standard that is good, holy, and pleases God.

Philippians 2:14-15 (NLT)

This command in Philippians is for believers, not unbelievers.

We shouldn’t scold them for not following they never agreed to follow.

The world couldn’t care less about your rules. We have to understand that following Jesus is voluntary!

Someone who hasn’t has no reason to of Jesus!

Is there a way?

Acts 17:16-30 (NLT)

Is there a better way to confront non-Christians? A more biblical way to reach them than by calling them out?

Stop judging and start…

What if instead of judging them, you prayed for them daily? Found a common ground and were friendly to them? Told them about the good and loving God you believe in? Introduced them to the real Jesus that gives real hope? Invited them to come to church?
