Simon the Zealot
Like James, son of Alphaeus, Simon is also mentioned only in the four lists of the disciples.
Generally speaking, a zealot is anyone who fervently supports a particular cause.
Acts 5:37 (ESV)
Principle One
Jesus picked Simon because he wanted to change him- to a gospel-centered disciple- and He has the same plan for you.
#1. Jesus you to you.
Mark 7:21-23 (ESV)
Jesus was there in the beginning, he was there watching- then everything changed. He watched and mourned, and then He acted. And it was all for a purpose!
2 Corinthians 5:15 (ESV)
2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
We are incapable of changing apart from Christ, so he came to change us. It’s about what he can make us to be.
Principle Two
The list of disciples is diverse, which shows us the makeup of a healthy church.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13
#2. is our defining trademark.
One of the true markers of a great church is its diversity.
John 13:35 (ESV)
We can be diverse, because when we focus on Jesus, then nothing else matters but Him and we will naturally draw closer to each other.
Colossians 3:11 (ESV)
Application
God knows !
Luke 6:12-13 (ESV)
God has chosen you. You are a part of His plan.
