John had some great attributes and abilities (tons of zeal and ambition), but he lacked maturity.

But then he walked next to Jesus for 3 years. Making mistakes and learning from them. And he grew!

Walking at a steady pace, over time, in the same direction, will get you far in this life.

And this is our prayer for you…

It took John a long time to get there, too. He went from a disciple of irrational zeal to the disciple of love.
