Calvary Baptist Church Red Bank The Product of Pentecost Archived – February 4, 2024 View This Week’s Note View All Past Notes View This Note w/o Blanks Main Scripture Reference(s) Acts 2:38-47 The Product of Pentecost February 4, 2024 / Greg Powell / Acts 2:38-47 We have spent the last several weeks looking at the price of Pentecost (what happened before the Spirit moved), the power of Pentecost (what happened when the Spirit moved, and today we look at the product of Pentecost (what happened after the Spirit moved). Acts 2 is a brief account of the birth of the church and it’s immediate fruitful success. If you love God and love the church, it should give you goose bumps. But also, the passage throws out there all the main ingredients that contributed to this fruitful result. I. A Membership (38-41) The people were in their heart and asked what they should do about this feeling of they had from the Holy Spirit. You’ve got to worry about people who to be saved, yet have never their mind about sin! Adrian Rogers used to say, “If nothing happened to you AFTER you walked the aisle to get saved, then nothing happened to you WHEN you walked the aisle to get saved!” Why does Peter tell them to repent and be for the remission of sins? Peter and the Bible is not saying that we get baptized in to get the remission of sins. It’s saying it’s right to be baptized your sins have been removed. II. A Membership (42-43) In One of the real marks of a Spirit-filled church and Spirit-filled believer is that there will be an intense desire to study and the Scriptures. James Montgomery Boice said, “A Spirit-filled church is always going to be a Bible-studying church.” In In scripture, believers are always pictured : sheep in a flock and s in an army. We need each other today to and encourage each other. In In Vernon McGee said “the greatest asset of any church is prayer.” III. A Membership (44-46) Each one shouldered their part of the load, each according to their , they had all things common. This was not about socialism, it was about for these new believers. IV. A Membership (47) Their Christian faith was a day-to-day , not a once-a-week routine. God was to their number daily. God’s Spirit was tracking people down and bringing them into this church to be saved.
