Calvary Baptist Church Red Bank Focus on Biblical Thinking Archived – July 9, 2023 View This Week’s Note View All Past Notes View This Note w/o Blanks Main Scripture Reference(s) Philippians 4:8-9 Focus on Biblical Thinking July 9, 2023 / Greg Powell / Philippians 4:8-9 Since the discipline of having your mind renewed and under biblical control is so critical to the growth of the believer, you might wonder – are there any guidelines for what we allow to occupy our minds? We continue to get these rapid-fire commands. These are not suggestions to apply to our lives accidentally or periodically, but intentionally. These are not electives in the curriculum of holiness – they are required classes with daily/hourly assignments. The list before us in verse 8 will help us focus on biblical thinking. I. Continually think about whatever is . People no longer ask today, “Is it true?” but “Does it ?”, “How will it make me feel?”, and “Do other people ?” Some people never have any peace or joy or stability in life because they live mentally in some and delusional la la land. People make up things that are not true, believe things that are not true, and then make about lies that affect relationships. II. Continually think about whatever is . The word “honorable” is one that means to think about things that are , reverent, and . This does not mean they cannot , but what it does mean is that they have an honest, honorable, and serious dignity to the way they think. III. Continually think about whatever is . By contrast, the person lies upon his bed at night thinking up new ways to – new ways to cheat – new ways to steal (Psalm 36:4). Think right things with , and you will do right things with integrity. IV. Continually think about whatever is . The word “pure” refers to thinking about things that are free from . People then, as now, were constantly attacked by temptations to sexual . The word is associated with and relationships. It has been my experience related to life and church life that there are people, even believers who seem to thrive on perpetuating between people. VI. Continually think about whatever is of good . People who will be joyful and peaceful will be those who think about the in others, not the bad or negative. In other words, do not think about things that you really should not be to others. In addition to thinking the proper thoughts, we have to follow the right .
