Calvary Baptist Church Red Bank Focus on a Hunger for Jesus Christ Archived – May 28, 2023 View This Week’s Note View All Past Notes View This Note w/o Blanks Main Scripture Reference(s) Philippians 3:10-11 Focus on a Hunger for Jesus Christ May 28, 2023 / Greg Powell / Philippians 3:10-11 This is the pinnacle statement of his testimony. When Paul became a true Christian, it wasn’t the end for him, it was just the beginning. Paul truly switches from rules to a relationship. He wanted to know Jesus. Christianity isn’t an it, it’s a Him. Christianity is about Jesus. The key word of these verses is that word “know.” This is a word that means to know in the sense of intimately understanding and experiencing something, not just knowing facts. Let’s consider four things we should hunger for from this passage. I. Be longing to know Jesus . (10a) Sadly, many believers only know Jesus Christ in the same way that most people in this world know . Our goal in life is not to know religious , rituals, and religious . Our goal in life is not to know legal codes or denominational laws. Our goal is to know Jesus Christ. Knowing the Lord in this way is not unless we count all other things and goals in life to be a total . II. Be aspiring to know Jesus . (10b) The greatest ever to explode in the face of an unbelieving world was the of Jesus from the dead. Now, that same resurrection power is to you and me. It is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Paul says here that there is another in the Christian life beyond where most believers live. Resurrection power means living in light of the fact that God has given us the power to live out His . III. Be willing to know Jesus . (10c) Paul says there is a pathway of . It was in Paul’s sufferings that he got to know Jesus more . Paul was not out looking to suffer, but he was not of it. There is a with God that can only be found through the vehicle of suffering. IV. Be expecting to know Jesus . (11) There has to be a to truly see and know Jesus. Paul anticipated a resurrection that would enable him to and know his Savior even more. How’s your appetite? What are you for? And how hungry are you?
