But in order for this to happen, you and I must face things honestly and carefully. We must do some heart-searching business with God. That is exactly what happens to Peter here. There are only two times we read about a charcoal fire in John – here and in 18:18. The first is when Peter denies Jesus three times, and the second is when Jesus restores Peter three times. I. The The three questions are almost identical, but this one is a little different because there is a in the question. “Peter, do you love Me more than these?” If Christ were talking to you beside a warm fire and He were to ask you, “Do you love Me more than these?” – for you, what would “” refer to? Some people are doctrinally straight, but their and overall manner of life suggests they are not in with Jesus. is the highest, deepest, most sacrificial and divine kind of love, and is brotherly love or fondness or kindness. II. The The person you really need to be concerned about as far as loving Jesus Christ is . Most of us do love the Lord Jesus, but not at the possible level. If our life is not joyful and and purposeful, the reason is that something is with our love for the Lord. III. The After the confession comes the ! That’s the way it is supposed to be and in the right order. before work. Notice what happens after we rekindle our love for the Lord? We are ready to love around us. The absolute best way for you to grow in your love for Jesus is to every day on the milk and meat of God’s Word. IV. The The book of John ends with a message from Jesus that puts the entire Christian life in a proper light. Jesus boils it down to two words: Follow Me! That’s it – . Don’t about what someone else is doing or not doing, but you work on following God’s Word and will for your life. Will you believe, , and follow Jesus? That’s the heart of the matter.
