Calvary Baptist Church Red Bank The Most Famous Conversation in the Bible Archived – July 18, 2021 View This Week’s Note View All Past Notes View This Note w/o Blanks Main Scripture Reference(s) John 3:1-5 The Most Famous Conversation in the Bible July 18, 2021 / Greg Powell / John 3:1-5 God cares about you as an individual. Jesus gets to the heart of things with each individual person and He loves each person here. Each individual person needs to be born again by faith in Jesus Christ. We are building up to and understanding the context of the most well-known verse in all the world – John 3:16 – and there are some deep truths to soak in. I have a hunch that Nicodemus had no idea that his discussion with Jesus would become the most famous conversation in the Bible. This conversation centers around what credentials are required to get into heaven. I. The of the Man (1) The story begins by giving us, in résumé fashion, all the qualities of a man who seemed to have it all together. A man A A elite A powerful If anyone was a for the kingdom, it would be this man. II. The of the Man (2) Deep in the heart of Nicodemus was the realization that something was , so he went to see Jesus. There must be some point in time when you go to Him. III. The of the Man (3-5) Jesus is telling the leading candidate for heaven that he is going! He has done a lot of things right, but he has not done the thing! Jesus says in Matthew 5:20 “Except your righteousness shall the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter the kingdom of heaven.” Only one thing gains a person entrance into heaven, and that’s being born . Jesus uses the word except which means “.” The new birth is the exclusive way to go to heaven. No matter who you are in your identity, if you come to Jesus with an honest inquiry about salvation, you will see how insufficient you are to earn salvation on your own.
