“SHOULD FAITH INFLUENCE POLITICS, OR JUST STAY OUT OF IT?”

FOUR APPROACHES TO FAITH AND POLITICS:

FAITH

This is when faith tries to control the narrative and overpower the dominant culture. But in doing so it holds others to its morals and standards by strong-arming and forcing itself upon others, and ironically often abandons its own biblical mandate of love. It may have started with good intentions, but has turned controlling and toxic.

FAITH

This is when faith tries to go along with the dominant culture. But in doing so, it has a tendency to bend too much and often abandons its biblical grounding completely. Like a wet noodle, it’s empty of any real substance or faith at all.

FAITH

This is when faith decides to opt out of engagement with the dominant culture. It sees the options of toxic or empty and just says, “No thank you!”, and throws in the towel. But in doing so it has no public relevance or influence at all. Its withdrawal and rejection of public influence has left it a silent bystander.

This is when faith serves the dominant culture. In doing so, it gains influence by leading with action and reflecting the character of Christ. It stays solely focused on Kingdom priorities with a quiet confidence that God’s in control of who’s in control.

HOW SHOULD CHRISTIANS ENGAGE IN THE POLITICAL SPHERE?
