THE SOCIALIST JESUS

The Socialist Jesus: This is the version of Jesus that says is next to Godliness.

A. WHAT DOES THE SOCIALIST JESUS BELIEVE?

  1. are a curse.
  2. Possessions are by the righteous.
  3. Poverty is always .

Dualism: is the idea that the physical world , and the spiritual world .

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” (2 Timothy 6:17-18)

B. WHAT DOES THE REAL JESUS BELIEVE?

  1. Possessions are .
    1. It is what we them – and what we allow them to – that determines their moral value.
  2. Possessions themselves are of God’s opinion of us.
  3. The most trustworthy indicator (of our standing before God) is to the possessions in our lives.

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

C. HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND?

  1. Trust God as of all things.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  (Matthew 6:25)
  2. Treat God as of all things.
“For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)
  3. Intentionally begin your possessions .
“A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.” (Leviticus 27:30)

Today’s “Big Idea”…

Jesus is not against you , Jesus is against your you.

Small Group Discussion Questions

  1. There’s always a bit of truth in a counterfeit. What is the bit of truth in the Socialist Jesus?

  2. The speaker read 1 Timothy 4:4 and applied it to how we should view our possessions.
How would you apply this verse in your life today?

  3. As with the other Counterfeit Jesuses, people who follow the Socialist Jesus tend to emphasize a few key passages that affirm their beliefs. What is the danger in doing this?

  4. If the number of possessions we have is not a trustworthy measure of God’s opinion of us, what is a trustworthy measure of His opinion?

  5. Jesus challenged the rich young ruler to sell his possessions because that was the number one priority in his life. What is the number one priority in your life?
