THE ULTIMATE END OF EVIL

If Jesus defeated and on the cross, then ?

9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. – 2 Peter 3:9-13 (NIV)

As Christ Followers we exist in an period. Between Jesus’ at the cross, and His eventual return to sin and evil, once and for all.

How do we KNOW there will be no more evil?

  1. There will no longer be an of temptation.

and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

– Revelation 20:10 (ESV)

  1. There will no longer be an of temptation.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. – Philippians 1:6 (ESV)

Today’s Big Idea…

The God allows evil to exist compared to an free of its presence.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. – 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (NIV)

How should we respond to this?

  1. Jesus’ return should make us .
  2. Jesus’ return should give us .
  3. Jesus’ return should give us .
