For this Purpose… (John 18:37-40)

Jesus’ kingdom was not an empire of but a realm of truth. 

Pilate, in asking what is truth, said that Jesus was no better than any other religious  

What is the Truth? 

Why was Pilate so disillusioned with talk about ultimate ?

The Greeks established a common language and

Romans believed (rightly) that the Greeks failed to answer life’s ultimate  

Plato pointed out that things or “particulars” all around us point to ultimate ideals—this leads to one ultimate idea for everything, which is truth. 

Greek philosophy said these ideals came from the (Greek Mythology). 

Later, Greek philosophy became very , as illustrated by the Stoics (grin and bear it) and Epicureans (if it feels good, do it).

Hegel’s philosophy: There is a theory (a truth) that produces an antithesis, and together they become a synthesis (and new truth), which is a new theory that produces an antithesis and on and on. 

The ultimate questions today are answered in a lot of places by avoiding reality and not even asking the questions. People are more concerned with what seems to work and not what is true.

A number of things our culture needs to know about truth: 

  1.     There truth, and it is an . All things that are true stand in proper relationship to God, who is truth. 
  2. Truth is . Truth is observable and can be talked about. Jesus is bearing witness to the truth!
  3. Truth comes from . God makes Himself
  4. Truth is in a person. 

Jesus changes everything!
