Introduction to the MB Confession 

Deuteronomy 6:4-6: Why should we teach these things diligently to our children? 

The of God is for faith to be from one generation to the

From the Preface of the 1999 MB Confession: “The Mennonite Brethren Church emphasized the centrality of biblical authority, articulating confessions of faith in order to connect scriptural teaching with contemporary discipleship.”

MB’s are not but are confessional. 

Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) means that Scripture is alone the final authority in matters of faith and practice (It does not mean Scripture is the only authority). 

To suggest Scripture is the only authority is because it elevates one’s private interpretation of what the church has always believed to be true. 

Confessions are not on par with the Scriptures and are capable of (Which the Scriptures are not).

A Confession is a of Biblical teaching.

A confession isn’t meant to be a straight-jacket but actually gives within the proper guardrails. 

A consequence of biblicism is biblical

Confessions are an aid to Christian discipleship: 

a. Confessions promote on the part of the disciple 

b. Confessions help avoid the of personality. 

c. Confessions complement the doctrine of Scripture

d. Confessions Christians, 

e. Confessions are a good teaching
