Membership and Unity

Church membership provides the context for within the local church.

Biblical Church membership makes for a  church.

The Bible calls believers to be to a particular local church. 

One of the most prominent themes in the New Testament is the call for believers to one another. 

John 15:12; 1 John 3:23; Romans 12:10

Romans 12:15; Ephesians 4:2;32; 1 Thessalonians 5:11; Hebrews 3:13; James 5:26; 1 Peter 4:9-10

The relationship between people in the church’s life is defined by

The early church knew part of the church and who was not.

Where did the idea of membership come from? 

The idea of becoming a church member comes from the

1 Corinthians 12:12-19

No member of the body is — each depends on others. 

Church membership describes what we intend our to Christ and one another to look like. 

Church Membership stimulates Unity by:

a. us – because it requires us to be Christians

b. Calls us to to the entire church. 

How can we encourage our friends who are not members of a church?

First things First: We should go out of our way to make people feel in our church!
