Resurrection (John 11:38-44)

Heidelberg Catechism (Question 1): What is your only comfort in life and death?  That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him.

What happens when a believer dies? 

The Intermediate State: That period after death when the goes to be with God, and the remains.

We do know where Lazarus’s soul was for the four days after his death, but we do know that his body and soul were when Jesus called him out of the tomb.

Two things we can agree on: 1. Jesus to the Father. 2. Jesus prayed

If Jesus is God, why did He need to Pray?

Luke 5:12-16

Jesus enjoyed communion with the Father.

When we pray, we do so by recognizing our and our need to sin.

Jesus, too prayed because He enjoyed with God — of course, for Him, this looked remarkably because He wasn’t broken and weak like we are. We need Him but He needs nothing.

Why do we pray publically? 

Public prayer the hearers into the relationship between the pray-er and God. 

Jesus’ prayer also demonstrates to the people that He isn’t doing this , but it is the will of the Father. 

Prayer in our lives demonstrates our upon God (for everything). 

Was Lazarus owed his life back? .

Is anyone owed spiritual life? .

The instrument by which we obtain salvation is

How could Lazarus get out of the tomb if he was in grave clothes? 

Jesus alone saves but still chooses to involve people.
