God’s Patience

In a world that shows God great hostility, we see God’s with humankind

2 Peter 3:9

“God’s patience will last until every single person that will come to Christ comes to Christ”

God’s patience is seen with Pharaoh, with the school board in Fargo, and with — and this highlights the importance of the in the life of the believer.

The Law highlights our but the gospel highlights that Jesus excelled where we have continually fallen

The Gospel highlights God’s patience toward us (Mercy)

God’s patience will not last forever

What is Repentance?

Simply: changing one’s about sin

Pharaoh’s false confession

Thomas Watson: The Doctrine of Repentance

False repentance: “

“A man has gone a long in his sin. At last God arrests him, shows him what desperate hazard he has run, and he is filled with anguish…Do not be deceived: this is not repentance…It is one thing to be a terrified sinner and another to be a repenting sinner. Sense of guilt is enough to breed terror. Infusion of grace breeds repentance.”  Watson

A truly repentant heart is sorrowed by the sin not only the anguish caused by it.

True repentance is a of God

The Spiritual Ingredients of God wrought repentance (From Thomas Watson):

A. of Sin — One must understand themself to be a sinner

B for SIn — “A woman may as well expect to have a child without pangs as one can have repentance without sorrow” ~ Watson

C. of Sin — Confession is the “Vent” for one’s sorrow toward sin

D. for Sin — “Blushing is the color of virtue — when the heart has been made black with sin, grace makes the face red with blusing.” Watson

E. for Sin — It follows that one who confesses sin must hate it

F. from Sin — When the heart changes in attitude toward sin at the core — the product is an outward turning away from sin and embracing Jesus as one’s hope
