God in Our Storm
August 20, 2023The God in Our Storms
God often comes in
- Job 38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm.
- Job 40:6: Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm.
- Jer 23:19 See, the storm of the LORD will burst out in wrath, a whirlwind swirling down on the heads of the wicked.
- Nah 1:3: His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.
- Heb 12:18: You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm.
- Exodus 19
- Revelation 4
My favorites:
- The Storm
- The Savior: He comes to them walking on water!
- Peter! Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you. Peter walks on water with Jesus!
- The end. I like how story ends. Get in boat, wind dies, worship him: Truly you son God.
Now look how brief this is in John. What is the message?
John 6:15-20
- John 6:20, Ego Emi, I AM
I Love About This Account:
1. Jesus (John 6:18)
–A miracle in Mark 6:48, he was on a hill and saw them.
–Notes on waves:
- Waves Pound you. Dangerous.
- Waves are violent. Water weighs 60 pounds per square foot.
- Waves come in sets.
2. Jesus (John 6:17, 19)
3. Jesus (John 6:19)
They didn’t just need the storm calmed; they needed Him.
4. Jesus (John 6:19)
Job 19:10: “He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.”
- He is Sure footed.
- He is Untossed.
- He is Confident.
5. Jesus . (John 6:20-21)
Why Is John’s Account So Short?
John wants to emphasize:
Exodus 3:7-14
The message communicated here is that the Great I Am still comes down to rescue His people.
