How to Reignite My Awe

For many Christians, a missing element in their walk with he Lord is Awe. The lack of Awe can drain us of spiritual strength. If you do not have awe in your walk with the Lord, you are not running at full spiritual charge.

Awe is “ /

Awe is a mixture of joy and fear.

Awe is a mixture of joy and fear. It’s both at once. The way you can be in awe of the ocean; excited and overjoyed to be in it, yet fearful just by its sheer vastness.

Yare: The word often translated “awe” is most commonly translated “fear.” (Strongs, 3372)

  • Afraid, 100
  • Awesome, 21
  • Awesome acts, 1
  • awesome things, 4
  • became afraid, 1
  • became…frightened
  • Fear and awesome, 1
  • Revere, 10
  • Revered, 3
  • Reverence, 3
  • Stand in awe, 1

Awe stirs me to pursue God with fresh energy.

Awe is the deep attraction of your soul toward God.

Habakkuk:

Habakkuk 2:1, he stood like a watchman at the tower. But unlike the watchman, he was not looking for an enemy, but for the Lord.

Habakkuk 2:4, God reminded the prophet that the righteous live by “his faith.” The wicked trust themselves. Babylon thinks they raised themselves up. Israel thinks they are strong and beyond punishment. The righteous trust God.

Habakkuk 3:2, the prophet at last says he stands in “awe” or “fear” of the Lord and his deeds.

Hebrews 12:28 gives that same idea of a mix of fear and wonder. (Awe, De’os.)

Awe can get

  • Disobedience.
  • Familiarity.
  • Mundane thinking.

. . . Result: Slip away from spiritual reality. We lose our profound sense of wonder and deep sureness that God is real. We not only fail to be blown away by God, we do not tremble at his presence.
