Revelation 9 Study Questions

1. Do you think the star fallen in v.1 is an angel or a demon?

 

2. As followers of Jesus, what are some ways we see demonic activity:

–Raging against God’s Church?

–Stirring sexual rebellion?

–Harming marriages?

 

3. Read Joel 1:1-7 and Revelation 9:7-12.

–What are some similarities?

–Joel was about a literal locusts plague followed by an invading army. Revelation shows us plagues followed by an army of demons. How organized do you think the demonic forces are?

 

4. Why do the demonic attacks cause people to wish for death? Do we see that in our world?

 

5. Read Proverbs 30:27. And Revelation 9:11. How do these locusts have a “king”? (It’s a clue they aren’t locusts.)

 

6. Be creative. If Revelation were written today using modern American symbols, instead of locusts, what images would be used to describe demons? What nations would be described as the invading enemy?

 

7. What are some ways the lost actually participate in demon worship or opening the door to demons?

–By playing actively calling on the spirit world. (Ouija boards, seances, praying to the dead, seeking to commune with the dead, palm reading.)

 

8. In many ways the world seeks demons. How are demons actually a danger to the lost?

–They are liars. They appear as angels of light, but deceive.

–They seek to keep humans in spiritual darkness.

 

9. Read Revelation 9:20-21. What is the prophetic view of mankind? Based on these verses, do you think the world has been getting better or worse as we move toward the Coming of Jesus?

 

10. Revelation 9 is pretty dark. What truths do you hold on to when the reality of a dark world is near you?

–God has a plan. God is moving his plan forward.

–The forces of darkness are used by God to expose man’s sin.

–There is real Good and real evil.

–A passage like this should cause us not to put our hope in this world. But to long for something better.

 

11. What does Revelation 9 teach us about God?

–God is Sovereign.  (He sends the angel down to open the pit.)

–He is powerful over evil.  The demons are bound until he releases them up from the river.

–He is truth.  He allows us to see the working of Satan.  Instead of making us wait to see hell, he allows us to see it at work.

 

12. What are the three sins listed in Revelation 9:21.  It said that man will not “repent” of these sins.  Are they still practiced today?
