Revelation: Study Questions Session 1

General:

  • What are some new things you learned tonight?
  • Where are some area’s of the world where Christians are suffering today?

Practical:

  • The early church experienced many forms of persecution. What are some things modern Christians will be persecuted for?
  • What are some ways that persecution might take place in the future?
  • Have you ever suffered for Christ? Or for Christian beliefs?
  • Craig Keener wrote, “Revelation reminds us that we do not belong to this world and must not be seduced by what it values.” What are some ways the believers are seduced by the values of this world?
  • Revelation is about God comforting his church while they are in the world. What are some ways God has comforted you?

Theological:

  • Revelation 1:3 gives a blessing to both those who read and those who hear the message of Revelation.
  • How would Christians in the first century have been blessed by reading Revelation?
  • How are we blessed by reading Revelation?
  • Jews and the early church called the Roman Empire “Babylon.” What are some ways the Roman Empire was like Babylon?
  • The “lampstand” with seven lamps was a menorah. Why do you think God chose to represent the church’s in a menorah?
  • Look at Revelation 1:5-6.

  • The study of the end times is called “eschatology.” What are some doctrines the Book of Revelation teaches us? (God is sovereign, on his throne) (God will judge the wicked) (Jesus is savior) (Heaven is a real place)
