Demons part 1 (Demonic Origins)

Series: Angels, Demons and the Son of God

I. What Are Demons?

1. Evil angels who

2. From the beginning parts of history he has (John 8:44, 1 John 3:8)

3. theory. (Between Gen 1:2 and Gen 1:3 is a gap that allows for a season of Satanic rebellion on the earth.)

 

II. Satan’s Activity in Eden. (Genesis 3:1-7)

  • Satan did not tell them to disobey.
  • The rebellion is against the “word” of the Lord.
  • Why aren’t Adam and Eve alarmed? Were they familiar with this being?

 

III. Satan’s Fall in Ezekiel 28:12-17

  • Full of wisdom and beauty: Ezekiel 28:12
  • He is a created being. Ezekiel 28:13
  • He was a “Guardian cherub” 28:14
  • He had access to God’s presence. Ezekiel 28:14b
  • Like man, angels were created perfect. Chose to sin. Ezekiel 28:15
  • He spread sin. Ezekiel 28:16
  • He was expelled from heaven. Ezekiel 28:16

Ezekiel 28:13 drops a bomb. He was in

The fall of Satan may have occurred

  • He was in the Garden of Eden.
  • God never warned them.
  • Satan is judged at the same time as Adam and Eve.
  • Satan is judged in same manner as Adam and Eve.
  • Genesis 3 outlines the entire rest of the Bible: The War.

 

IV. Satan’s Judgment. (Genesis 3:14-15)

  • Every crawling snake is a reminder of Satan’s judgment.
  • God clearly sees the crawling on a belly as a “disgrace” (as described in Ezekiel 28:16)
  • Genesis 3:15 is called the, “Protoevangelium.”
  • Genesis 3:24, compare to Ezekiel 28:16. Especially “drove the man out” and “I drove you in disgrace…”
  • A cherubim is there to guard the tree, not the garden.
  • The flaming sword (Genesis 3:24) John Currid writes: “The second object is a flaming sword that is continuously turning – the pattern in Hebrew signifies that it is ‘turning itself’ every way. It is not held in the hands of the cherubim, but apparently stands on its own.”

 

V. Isaiah: Satan’s Fall in Isaiah. (Isaiah 14:12–15)

1 Timothy 3:6 says Satan’s sin was pride.

The five “I WILL’s” of Satan:

  • I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God.
  • I will set my throne on high.
  • I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far north;
  • I will ascend above the heights of the clouds
  • I will make myself like the Most High.”

Is Satan called “Lucifer”

Isa 14:12: How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!

The Name Lucifer not appear in Hebrew. Latin translation of Hebrew word Helel:

 

VI. The New Testament speaks in two places of Satan and the demons being thrown out:

  • Jude 6
  • 2 Peter 2:

VII. Sons of God a d daughters of men. (Genesis 6:1-4)

Some ancient rabbis and Church fathers said that Sons of God were heavenly angelic beings who came to earth and had unnatural relations with human daughters or women. They produced Nephelium. In this view, the Flood is sent to destroy these demonic half humans.

A. Problems:

  • Title: They are called (Angels. Disobedient angels)
  • View is not espoused by the
  • Jesus said: Angels don’t (Matt. 22:30)
  • Physics: Angels are
  • Creation order: God is the
  • This is not the reason (Gen. 6:5-8)

 

B. Better view:

  • This is talking about mixing of (Gen. 4:26)
  • The daughters of men “saw” the women were attractive; same word as Gen. 3:6, she saw that the fruit was good.
  • The Nephilim sets the

Nephilim comes from: “Naphal” = To fall. These are the “fallen ones.” (Still around in the time of Moses, Num. 13:31-33)

 

VIII. Names of Satan:

The name “Satan” is a Hebrew word that means “adversary.”

–Job: “the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them” (Job 1:6)

–David: “Satan stood up against Israel, and incited David to number Israel” (1 Chron. 21:1).

–Zechariah vision: “Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him” (Zech. 3:1).

–Jesus was tempted by Satan. He declared, “Be gone, satan!” (Matt. 4:10

–Jesus: “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven” (Luke 10:18).

–“the devil”: English translation of Greek diabolos, which means “slanderer.”

–The serpent” (Gen. 3:1, 14; 2 Cor. 11:3; Rev. 12:9; 20:2),

–“Be-elzebul” (Matt. 10:25; 12:24, 27; Luke 11:15) – Lord of the Flies.

–“the ruler of this world” (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11),

–“the prince of the power of the air” (Eph. 2:2), or “the evil one” (Matt. 13:19; 1 John 2:13).
