Battle for the Heart: I Owe You

5.10.26

Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV)
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…”

Anger says: You Owe me.

Guilt says: I owe you.

Many moms don’t just love their children deeply; they blame themselves deeply.

Guilt doesn’t just remind you of your past.

If you carry it long enough, it starts shaping your present.

What do we do with Guilt?

1 Timothy 1:15 (NIV)
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners — of whom I am the worst.”

Romans 8:1 (NIV)
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

In Christ, guilt may describe what I have done, but condemnation no longer defines who I am.

No condemnation means I am safe to confess.

How did this happen?

Romans 8:2 (NIV)
“because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

Who Made this happen?

Romans 8:3 (NIV)
“For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did…”

What do I do with what I’ve Done?

  1. I confess it.
  2. I seek to repair what I can.
  3. I replace guilt with truth

Romans 8:1 (NIV)
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
