RELATIONSHIP KILLER Part 2: Anger: Taming The Fire Within

February 18, 2024

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NIV
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Neglect leads to regret.
Nurturing leads to Fulfillment

Matthew 15:18 NIV
18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.

Matthew 5:19 NIV
19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

When our emotions take control, things tend to get out of control.

Ephesians 4:26 NIV
26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,

Righteous Anger

Others not getting what they deserve.
VS
Me not getting what I deserve.

We think that anger comes from something/someone external.

James 4:1 NIV
1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?

The source of our anger is something going on inside of you.

James 4:1 NIV
1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?

There’s something we want that we aren’t getting.

James 4:1 NIV
1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?

I earned it.

They promised.

It’s not fair.

Practice mindful communication.

“When angry count to ten before you speak. If very angry, count to one hundred.”

Proverbs 15:1 NIV
1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

The source of our anger is something going on inside of you.
