CADENCE Part 2: Why You Need The Sabbath

HURRY SICKNESS
1. You treat everything like a race.
2. You find it impossible to do just one task at a time.
3. You get highly irritable when experiencing a delay.
4. You feel perpetually behind schedule.
5. You interrupt or talk over people.
6. You’re obsessed with checking things off your to-do list.

You can be less hurried but more productive

10 commandments
1. Worship only 1 god.
2. Have no idols.
3. Don’t dishonor god’s name.

8. Do not steal.
9. Do not lie.
10. Do not covet what doesn’t belong to you.

4. Every 7 days, you must take 1 day to rest. No work allowed.

Exodus 20:8-11 NIV
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Sabbath -“to stop” or “cease.”

Exodus 20:9-10 NIV

The principle behind the Sabbath is rest.

Exodus 20:11 NIV
11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Genesis 2:2 NIV
2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.

Genesis 2:3 NIV
3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Genesis 1:22 NIV
22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”

Genesis 1:28 NIV
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Blessed
“to evoke divine favor; to fill with strength.”

When we give God the Sabbath, He will bless 6 days so we can get more done than we would have with 7.

When you don’t take a Sabbath, you are literally killing yourself.

We can’t expect to break the principles of God and experience the blessing of God.

The rest of 2021, take one day off a week where there is no work.
