Good morning and welcome to Jesus Church

We are on part 5 in our series on Freedom (Catch up online)

Half way through our series on Freedom in Christ

• So important because in order to reach the world for Jesus
  • We have to be in control of our lives
  • We can’t have the enemy with the keys to our house
  • Or joy riding in our cars
• We need to be in full control… ready for every good work
  • And in order to do that – Need to take back control
  • Control that we literally give the the Devil
  • Good news is… we can take that back whenever we want

• And when Jesus talks about being set free
  • John 8:36 – If the son has made you free, you are free indeed

Week 1: Talked about demon possession in the Bible

  • Zomi
    • Doesn’t mean ownership
    • Means to gain power over
• Can Christians be under influence of demonic spirit
  • Absolutely: Jesus clearly says enemy finds way in the sheep pin
  • And that happens because you open that door/window
  • Now can a Spirit own You… Not a chance

  • If you leave door open and a thief comes in
    • Thief doesn’t own the home
    • But he is in your home
    • Stealing from you

  • Man takes drugs or too much alcohol into body
    • Person is under influence of it
    • Do something foolish that he wouldn’t usually do

Last week we started talking about those open doors

• Bible says: Enemy comes in our lives through doors that we open
  • I believe to be most prevalent door in society today – Pride
  • Enemy found an open door in the life of
    • Peter – Own strength
    • Job – Own righteousness
    • Ahab – Own wisdom
      • And it was all based of pride
• This week – 2 more open doors (Next week – Original open door)
  • Reason – Until you identify what’s really going on
    • Not just a habit… weak area… escape
    • You will never be free
    • Must understand it for what it is
      • Control you have given to the enemy

Story

Back when we were in the old building… remember planning the year

• Foot started hurting… trying to ignore it
  • Maybe a stick
    • Maybe I got bit by something
    • Eventually I just pretended it wasn’t there
• Sorta forgot about it
  • Got back to what I was doing… straighten chairs in sanctuary
  • All of the sudden foot is hurting again
• Take my shoe off
  • Looks like my toe isn’t connected (TMI)
  • Here’s a picture
• Michelle hair – in sock – around toe – circulation
  • Tell Michelle and she’s actually heard of this before
  • Stories of babies loosing toes because of this

One way we let enemy in: Sinful living

Jn 8:32

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

• Verse 32 very famous
  • But the verse starts with “and” meaning it ties into verse 31
  • Cant understand verse 32 without verse 31

John 8:31-32

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him (Believers), “If you abide in My word (talked – Filling house with Word of God), you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

About to read best illustration of people blind to their own bondage

• Blind to the fact to the blood supply cut off from their toe
  • Remember: This is said to people who believed him

Jn 8:33

They answered Him, We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone.

• Have you read the Old Testament… Jews in bondage to everyone
  • Chaldeans/Babylonians/Assyrians/Egyptians
  • Whats crazy… when they made this statement
  • They were literally in bondage to the Romans
• Think its crazy but we aren’t much different
  • We believe: I’ve never been in bondage
  • It’s just a thorn in my flesh
• That’s no thorn: There’s a dagger in your back & your bleeding out
  • Because Jesus makes it clear what bondage is…
  • Pride/fear/lust/bitterness/jealousy/unforgiveness/anger
  • Look at the very next verse – What Jesus says

John 8:34-36

Jesus answered them, Most assuredly I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Listen: This isn’t talking about salvation… its talking about sonship

• Believers can choose to walk as a son/daughter OR a slave
  • Jesus saying don’t choose to live as a slave to sin
  • Because I made you a son (daughter)
• Uses the word Commit
  • Committed to continuing in sin
  • Gk. – To formulate a plan
  • Whoever formulates a plan to sin, is in bondage to sin

Continued Sin in your life opens a door to the Enemy

• Might think sin result from the door being open
  • No, sin opens door for enemy to kill, steal and destroy your life.

James 1:14-15

But each on is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

Enemies only objective – Steal, Kill and Destroy

• Satan doesn’t control sin – Fell into sin just like us
  • But “Iniquity” was found in you
  • Iniquity is internal sin – His heart was jealous of God
• So understand: Sin not the devils weapon
  • But it is his ticket into your life
  • It’s the open door that Jesus talks about
• And we’ve all have sin in our lives that we’ve committed to
  • Justify and formulate a plan to stay in that sin
  • Or to accommodate that sin
    • How… by keeping it hidden
    • That’s your commitment to sin

Romans 6:16

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death (bondage) or of obedience leading to righteousness.

• And this is talking to believers
  • If you serve sin – leads right into the enemy’s plan for you
  • If you serve obedience – leads right into God’s plan for you

Many symbols Jesus delivering demons from believers

• Greatest symbol: Prophecy in OT… fulfilled by Jesus in NT

Jer. 7:8-11

Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit. Will you steal, murder (hate in heart), commit adultery (lust), swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know, and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say we are delivered to do all these abominations? Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of thieves in you eyes? Behold I even I have seen it, says the Lord.

• What does Jesus do: Goes into the temple
  • Drives out thieves and robbers out of the temple
  • Quotes this EXACT scripture
    • Church is a temple
    • But we are the temple of the Holy Spirit
    • Jesus wants thieves out of Temple
• Jeremiah saying
  • You are making provision for continued sin
    • Yet you speak out that you are free
  • Question: Why would you think you are free?
    • When you live by the flesh
    • Stop making plans to sin
    • Makes plans to get out of sin

And if you think continued sin only affects you: You’re wrong

• When you do something sinful in secret
  • Specifically talking to married couples here
  • Men you look at something on the computer
• Then your wife comes home – You get in a fight… she’s on edge
  • Why… because Bible says you are one flesh
  • What you do in secret will affect your wife
    • She’ll be upset and won’t even know why
    • Its because her spirit is affected by what you’ve done
• And the enemy will come in and will justify what you did
  • Because she came home on edge
  • She’s on edge BECAUSE of what you did (doesn’t even know it)
    • Don’t think your sin doesn’t effect your family… it does
    • And that’s just one example

Here’s the plan… Bible says

• Confess your faults to one another, that you may be healed
• Illustration (like previous)
  • Doorbell rings
    • Guys with ski masks and crowbars at the door
    • Would unlock the door to that person?
    • Would you even crack the door open?
      • No you would go get your gun and call 911
• Every time you allow sin provision in your life
  • That’s what you so…
  • And there is no maybe… The enemy will come in
  • With a plan, strategy and experience

Mark 7:24-30

From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know It (You ever been there), but He could not be hidden. For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet.

The woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by birth (details mean its important), and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

And she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.” Then He said to her, “For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.”

And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.

Need to understand

• She is Greek, not Jew… and she’s Syro-Phonecian
  • Phoneica – capital of Paganism
    • They brought paganism into Israel
    • Remember Jezabel – She was Phoneican (Married Ahab)
    • Brought witchcraft to Israel… Witchcraft is rebellion
  • Syro – Syrian
    • Bible talks about the Syrians a ton
    • Says there was a Spirit of pride in these people
  • Pride and Rebellion (Many believers have this mixture in their lives
    • Pride convinces them they can do it on their own
    • Rebellion empowers them to do it on their own
  • This woman had a background in witchcraft & rebellion
    • And it was already affecting her daughter (Please hear me)
      • Don’t read your horoscope
      • Don’t get your fortune read
      • Don’t have a Ouija board
        • Want to know your future
        • Read it in the Bible
    • If you don’t think this happens today… you need to wake up
      • Get your head out of the sand

Ex. 20:5

You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me.

This is 100% referring to Ungodly parents

• And rebellious children
  • Implication is children will continue in the ways of their parents
  • Just look around
    • You will see that what you will influence what your kids do
• But in this story: The woman breaks that chain … how?

Close by looking a Jesus response to this woman

• Jesus makes statement that needs to be explained

Mark 7:27

But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

So much to this verse

• Important: Children refers to the Children of Abraham
  • Natural Sons/Daughters of Abraham (Jews – who she was not)
  • This would be the same as most of us today
• But we are Spiritual Sons and Daughters of Abraham

Gal. 3:7

Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.

Gal 3:29

If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Read on in John 8… Jews claim they’re children of Abraham

• How does Jesus reply: Abraham isn’t your father
  • If he was you would believe me
  • Indicating spiritual sonship
• He says: True children of Abraham believe me
  • But your father is the devil

Jesus say: Not right to take what belongs to children and give to dogs

• Sounds rude and cruel… not what we would think Jesus would say
  • I mean we think this is talking about an entire group of people
  • In fact we think anyone who isn’t a Jew – Jesus is calling a dog
  • Jesus isn’t rude or cruel
• DOG: Jesus uses biblical language (He’s definitely using symbolism)
  • Which happens throughout the Bible
  • So what does a dog represent

Rev. 22:14-15

Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

• So Outside heaven… are there
  • Murderers
  • Liars
  • Sorcerors
  • Dioxins
  • Chuawawas
• Either outside of heaven literal dogs… or dogs represent something
  • Easy to understand what they represent (Lost people)
  • Saved people go to heaven
  • Lost people don’t go to heaven

Phil. 3:2

Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers

• This is obvious that Dogs represent lost people

Woman asks for deliverance

• Jesus says: It’s impossible to deliver someone who doesn’t believe
  • Deliverance and freedom is for children
  • Back to the idea of SONSHIP

I want you to see two things in the text here

• Deliverance is for the children
  • Specifically talking about deliverance from oppression of enemy
  • Talking about deliverance from an unclean spirit
  • Attacking her daughter
    • Probably had a hold on her life as well
• Woman isn’t a physical child of Abraham
  • Look at what she says: I want the bread that the children have
    • Who is the Bread of Life: Jesus
    • So what is she is saying… I believe
    • Now how does Jesus respond to what she says

Mark 7:29

“For this saying go your way; the demon has cone out of your daughter”

• Saying – That is your Declaration of Commitment… your freedom
  • Jesus didn’t change his mind on qualifications
    • He didn’t say “well fine I guess”
    • Instead this woman became qualified for her freedom
      • The moment she became a daughter… QUALIFIED

Col. 1:12-13

Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power (permission/authority/right) of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.

If in bondage – How do you get set free

• Understand in order to have deliverance
  • You must be child (relationship) with God
  • Admit you need deliverance… believe you are qualified
  • Because you are God’s family
